State Cost
Share Signup
Begins Soon
The Comanche County Con-
servation District will soon start
taking applications for fiscal
year 2007, water resources, and
non-point source cost-share.
Applications will be accepted
for just one month -- May 15,
through June 15, with funds
available July, I.
The State Conservation Com-
mission provides funding for
these programs from the Kansas
Water Plan Fund. The SCC ad-
ministers state cost-share pro-
grams here through the Coman-
che County Conservation Dis-
trict. The conservation district
provides landowners financial
assistance to implement ap-
proved conservation plans.
To obtain cost-share funds,
landowners must apply, and be
approved, prior to beginning any
work on their project. The cost-
share rate for water resources
projects is 60 per cent of the ac-
tual cost, or county average cost,
whichever is less. The cost-chare
for NPS projects is 70 per cent.
Some common cost-share
practices include, but are not
limited to, range planting, water
well, terrace, grassed waterways,
critical area planting, and well
decommissioning. Stop by the
conservation office at 105 N.
New York if you would like to
apply for cost-share assistance.
If you would like more infor-
mation regarding eligible prac-
tices, call 620-582-2211 ext 3.

TIMELY TRUTHS THAT HELP
"A Line In The Sand"
.Saverakyears ago I took my young son to the IMAX Theater.
The featurepresentation was exciting and absolutely breath taking,
"The Titanic." Through the camera's lens on the big screen, it was as
if we were there reaching into the rooms and the corridors of that
dark ship in its watery grave.
Built as an unsinkable ship, the Titanic was an engineering
wonder of its time. Its massive engines, capable of delivering 50,000
horse power, propelled the 46,328-ton vessel at a speed of more
than 20 knots. On the night of the disaster, a series of 16 carefully
engineered airtight compartments built into the ship's double
bottomed hull was to be a guarantee against sinking.
But it sank. Builders were so confident of the ship's invincibility
that this comment was made, "Not even God could sink the Titanic."
Such arrogance has been shown before. Upon the sands of
Babylon, survivors of the flood and their descendants schemed to
build a tower that would reach into the heavens so that they might
make a name for themselves and not be scattered over the face of
the earth
God knew that if left unchecked man's attempt to take his destiny in
his own hands to seize the reigns of history would eventually result
in man's kingdom displacing and excluding the kingdom of God That
God could not allow He confused the language of the builders and
scattered them over the whole earth
God chose not tolerate arrogance We are not ever to boost
about what we will do tomorrow "Now listen you who say q oday or
tomorrow we will go to this or that city spend a year there carry on
business and make money Why you do not even know what will
happen tomorrow Instead you ought to say If it is the Lord's will
we will live and do this or that" James 4:13-15 (NIV)
Today God still draws a line in the sand The combined
ingenuity and creativity of mankind will never alter His sovereignty
God will never be thwarted by man's arrogance. Attempts to cross
the line will be dealt with. Yet in His greatness, God still desires to
show His love and grace to those who will follow Him.
The truth is -- there's only one side of the line to be on. Which
side are you on?
